Interview with Karim, Morocco’s Desert Ambassador

Linda M: Hello Karim! Thank you for joining us today. Let's start by understanding a bit about you. How did you become a driver-guide in Morocco?

Karim: Salam! It's my pleasure. My family has been rooted in Morocco for generations, and I grew up hearing tales of the desert, mountains, and ancient cities. As a child, I was always passionate about exploring new places. So, becoming a driver guide seemed like the perfect way to share my love for Morocco with others.

Linda M: What do you enjoy most about your job?

Karim: Every trip is a new adventure! I love meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds. But most importantly, seeing their eyes light up when they witness the beauty of Morocco makes all the hard work worth it.

Linda M: The Moroccan desert is a major highlight for many travelers. Can you share a memorable experience you've had there with guests?

Karim: Absolutely! Once, I took a couple to the Erg Chebbi dunes. As we camped under the stars, a meteor shower began. The sky was alight with shooting stars. The awe and wonder on their faces... it's moments like these that I cherish the most.

Linda M: Morocco is rich in culture and history. How do you ensure travelers get an authentic experience?

Karim: I believe in storytelling. Whether it's the legend behind an ancient kasbah or a personal anecdote from my childhood, I always try to weave stories into our journey. Plus, I often take guests to local markets, introduce them to local cuisine, and sometimes even arrange for them to share a meal with a local family.

Linda M: Safety is a top concern for many travelers. How do you ensure that guests have a safe experience?

Karim: Safety is always a priority. Our vehicles undergo regular maintenance, and I'm trained in first aid. Besides, I'm always updated about local conditions, be it weather, road closures, or any regional events, ensuring our routes are secure and comfortable.

Linda M: Lastly, for someone visiting Morocco for the first time, what's your top piece of advice?

Karim: Come with an open heart and mind. Morocco is a tapestry of cultures, landscapes, and stories. Embrace every moment, savor the flavors, and let the magic of the land sweep you off your feet!
